I’m sorry guys but Kristy Lee Cook just doesn’t do it for me. She’s a sweetie and all but come on now, she admitted to the camera, “I had my own dog bowl to drink from” and that is frankly kind of strange! Anyway, tonight her outfit was less than flattering – some old lady rags. But she took Simon’s advice and tried to go with a more country route. It is definitely her strong suit but not enough to blow anybody away. Some of the notes she reached for at the end were just painful to hear. She sure looks like a performer but her vocals just can’t cut it. Randy actually liked it because of the country twinge. Paula said it could be a radio hit for her but I just don’t see it. And Simon said it was good to hear the country influence but he still thinks she is forgettable. Agreed.

Ramiele Malubay started off singing beautifully and built the song up nicely. There weren’t any huge notes or anything but it was really nice all around. Randy told her, “you got mad vocals, come on with it” meaning she needs to pick some songs that will allow her to belt out all the good stuff. Paula talked about loving the “colors” and “textures” of her voice and then trailed off into being a total crackhead again. It was very awkward and she ate up a lot of camera time! Simon called the performance “very old fashioned”, a bit predictable and said he wasn’t “jumping out of [his] chair on that.”

My girl Brooke White did an awesome cover of Pat Benetar’s “Love Is A Battlefield”. She sat at the edge of the stage singing while the band played an acoustic arrangement of the song. She turned it into a slower, country ballad and I just loved it. Randy really liked it while Paula felt that the music should’ve been different. Simon dismissed Paula’s comments and like myself, loved her version.

Syesha Mercado was last to go tonight and as usual she looked and sounded lovely. Tonight she sang “Saving All My Love For You”. This girl’s definitely got a spot in the top 12.

Last night, the guys sang their hearts out to 80s hits and tonight the top 8 girls showed off their stuff…

Asia’H Epperson looked cute tonight as she sang Whitney Houston’s “I Want To Dance With Somebody”. I thought it was a really nice performance. Randy called it “hot” and Simon said she is good enough to make the top 12.

Kady Malloy sounded downright manly tonight. Her pitch was a little bit funky in certain spots. Randy didn’t like it. Paula, again on drugs tonight said “for me this is your best performance.” Simon felt it was better than last week but he is still having issues with her “massive lack of personality.”

Amanda Overmeyer did a much better job this week than she has been doing lately. My only gripe is that it sounded like the background vocals were louder than she was. Almost as if the band was trying to cover up her voice so that she can stay in the competition! But that didn’t phase the judges who thought she did excellent tonight. Simon told her, “I thought you were fantastic.”

Carly Smithson doesn’t ‘wow’ me but I give the girl a lot of credit for such a nice performance tonight. She sounded good and all her big notes were right on the money. Randy told her, “Carly, you keep smashin’ it every week.” Paula got kind of off track and a little weird again by poking fun at Randy. Simon didn’t think she chose the right song. He told her that the song just didn’t give her the credit she deserves and that she is “a million times better than that song.”
