The Miami Vice edition of the American Idol auditions kicked off tonight with 10,000 hopefuls and… get this… Paula in what Simon calls, a “very slutty” dress.

Shannon spends her days working in her parent’s meat market.  She’s got a funky 80s style and is a champion at burping, but can she sing?  Well, not really.  She attempts Janis Joplin’s “Cry Baby” but it sounds like a bunch of loud animals garbling on through the night.  Nobody could understand a single word she sang and the judges have to pass.

Former boybander, Robbie Carrico came to American Idol to show off his rock sensibility.  He’s got a nice tone to his voice and gives a pretty good performance.  He makes it through to Hollywood and is pelted with firecrackers and fiesta string on his way out of the audition.

Ghaleb is a guitar playing, harmonica blowin’, piano-man who describes his music as a gypsy style.  Well he doesn’t exactly wow everybody.  Simon says he would like him if he was drunk, does that count?  He gets the green light to Hollywood but my gut says he isn’t really going to make it too far.  Especially since he kissed the entire Idol staff on his way out the door… just a little bit weird, dontcha think?

Watch out ladies and gentleman because here comes Corliss Smith and Brittany Wescot.  These two heavyset lovable gals are looking for some real men.  First, Corliss sings to Randy and then Brittany sings to Simon.  The judges just loved these girls and so did I.  Hey, did anybody else catch Randy’s ruby red slippers from underneath the desk?  Anyhow…

Suzanne Toon is a young, single momma with a smokey, sexy voice that lands her a first class ticket to Hollywood.

Ending Day 1 was Ramiele Malubay, the 19 year-old teeny Asian girl with the great big pipes.  Her version of Aretha Franklin’s “Natural Woman” was a little bit on the loud side but good enough to make it through to Hollywood.
