The second half of the Omaha auditions began with a lot of commotion between the judges and everybody’s favorite host, Ryan Seacrest.  The judges decide to have Ryan and Paula swap places to prove that selecting contestants is indeed a tough job.

Poor Samantha Sidley … she had the unlucky job of auditioning during this fiasco.  Without too much ambition or confidence in herself, the 22 year-old sings Norah Jones’s hit, “Don’t Know Why”.  Her voice is smooth and sexy but she gives a brutally boring performance.  Ryan judges first by telling her he likes her voice but she needs to work on her moves.  Paula comes back to reclaim her seat as the judges mock Ryan’s ability to effectively judge the contestant.  I thought Ryan did just fine, but what do I know? Samantha still pulls it off and heads to Hollywood with four yesses.

Then there was the emotional Angelica Puente, the 17 year-old girl with some serious daddy drama.  She tells us she does not get along with her dad so she had to move out and live with her grandma.  Well, Angelica does have a pretty great voice but she mimics Celine Dion so much that the judges tell her she needs to work on defining who she is as a singer.  Angelica still manages to sneak on through and Ryan calls her father up after the audition to see if he is proud of his little girl.  The phone call goes over well and Angelica finally makes her father proud.

David Cook is a 24 year-old bartender and musician who looks up to Chris Daughtry’s successful American Idol audition for good measure.  He is a real nice guy with a rocker edge, his hair is black and red and spiked down the middle.  David’s “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi is great but unbelievably slowed down.  Randy tells him to move around and actually perform.  David makes it through to Hollywood with 3 nods from the judges.

Johnny E. is an 18 year-old who compares himself to James Brown.  Sound like a disaster to you?  He comes in wearing a gold sequined jacket and has some greasy, overgrown bangs on his head.  He is geeky with a terrible voice and bad dance moves to boot.  To put it plainly, Simon calls him everything that he hates.

Last up was Leo Marlowe - catchy name, huh?  He is an offbeat and open kinda guy with a real nice voice.  The judges think he is genuinely good and send him off to the next round.

Omaha produced only 19 finalists total but there is always tomorrow in Miami, Florida to grab some more Idol talent.
