First off, my apologies for the super late posting.  Yes I realize the results show was days ago so I need to fill in those of you who may have missed it.  Last week’s American Idol results were shocking for a lot of people - Michael Johns was sent home while Syesha Mercardo and Carly Smithson were sent back to safety.  Judging by performances alone, Carly should have been the one to hit the road since Michael did a pretty rockin’ job of “Dream On”.  Hey, it wasn’t the best but it was definitely better than the crappy performances Carly’s been giving us.

By far, the WORST part of the show came when Ryan Seacrest commented on how last year after Idol Gives Back, the producers decided that everybody would be safe that week.  And then he says something along the lines of, “But not this year.  It’s the end of the road, Michael”.  WOW.  What a dick.

Want to know the burning question on everybody’s minds though?

WHO KEEPS VOTING FOR KRISTY LEE COOK?!?!

Gee Whiz, can we get the people with no talent off the show before we start worrying about kicking off people who are somewhat decent?  Anyway, I think Syesha’s in for it folks.  She keeps getting stuck in that bottom three no matter how great she sings.  I guess the public just doesn’t find her very appealing.

How many of you want David Archuleta to win? Let’s hear it!  Comment if you’re rooting for him :)

Okay so back to the results show recap.  Idol Gives Back was another huge success this year.  We found out that donations reached over $60 million.  We got to see Miss Jordin Sparks singing “No Air” with Chris Brown.  Great song although Jordin’s voice sounds so digitalized.  Ah well!  That’s Hollywood for ya!

The top 8 performed “Shout to the Lord”.  I’m hoping they pick some better songs for these group numbers.  They’ve all seemed kind of cheesy lately.

Well folks, that’s all I’ve got for now.  Stay tuned.

David Cook completely bombed last night. I don’t care what anybody else has to say about this guy. He is a total phony! He comes out wearing this white jacket like he’s an angel or something and decides to sing Our Lady Peace’s “Innocent”. Well I could handle the jacket but the song was just an atrocity to mankind. He dropped the first verse down an octave which came off as very strange and sounded bad bad bad. His notes in the middle of the song are totally off-pitch. And he ends the performance by walking over to the judges and showing off his hand to the camera which has “Give Back” written on it.

COME ON NOW!

This guy is the biggest gimmicky, fake, wanna-be loser to ever grace the Idol stage!! Luckily the judges agreed with me :) Randy said he didn’t quite get it and it fell a little short. Paula said he has the whole package (but we all know Paula’s opinion doesn’t count). Simon says he didn’t like it and that it was David’s weakest performance in the last 2 weeks.

Have a look for yourself.

Carly Smithson performed Queen’s “The Show Must Go On” and to be honest, the show is pretty much over for her. The girl can sing but seriously, don’t take on Freddie Mercury if you can’t quite do it right. Randy said it was just okay and that she didn’t quite hit the mark. Paula says she is going to have to agree with Randy - said she didn’t feel engaged with her. Simon called it an unusual choice of song, told Carly she oversang it and lost control of the song. Plus she sounded angry.

David Archuleta sat at the piano and performed “Angels” just beautifully. Randy called it his “hottest moment the whole season” and loved it when he stopped playing and sang some runs. Simon said it was the best song choice of the night so far. Then he tells him that his vocal was better at the end than at the beginning. But he added that he was just picking on David because the kid is going to sail on through to the next round.

What you think about his performance?

Brooke White changed it up with “You’ve Got A Friend” by singing at the microphone and having someone else play piano. It wasn’t her greatest performance but I love her anyway. Randy said it wasn’t her best but he wasn’t mad at her. Paula called it a perfect way to end the show. And it yet another hilarious moment from Simon, he seemed in a happy daze and called Brooke’s performance a nice, pleasant walk in the park. Then added a very funny, “thank you” to signal that was all he had to say.

Last night’s idol was inspirational song night. So how did they do?

Michael Johns performed Aerosmith’s famous “Dream On” and it was actually really good (for him). He even goes up to Steven’s acclaimed falsetto. Randy said it was a pretty good song choice but there were some pitch problems. Agreed. And after some back and forth commentary, Randy declared that American Idol is not ‘about dreams’. Wow! Come on, Randy.. that was a bit harsh! Paula totally disagrees with Randy and says his high notes would have her chihuahuas joining him on stage. Simon says he liked it but it was a “little bit wannabe-ish”. Hmmm. Isn’t this what I’ve been saying about Michael Johns and David Cook from day one? Looks like Simon is catching on to it too.

Anyway, here’s how he went!

If you’re like me then you were wondering what in the world Syesha Mercado could have possibly sang that would top her last two weeks of performances. Last night she went with a Fantasia Barrino song and in my opinion she does it better than the original. She hits one insanely high note and totally made my jaw drop. Randy said it was okay but she doesn’t have the emotional connection that Fantasia does. Paula says she “flipped it” and made it her own and that “hands down, this is one of your shining nights”. Simon feels like it was good but it lacked a “big, big wave of emotion”.

Jason Castro came out with a ukelele and performed “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. It was absolutely beautiful and so simple. Randy called it “blazin’ moltin’ hot” and said it was the best performance of the night. Paula says he did a great job and Simon called it “fantastic.”

What do you think?

Kristy Lee Cook is still in the game unfortunately. Last night she tackled Martina McBride’s “Anyway” and it was alright. It was good but not nearly as good as the original. She just doesn’t have enough power behind her voice and there were definitely some pitchy points. Simon said he thought she was really good, “you look like a star tonight, Kristy”. And in a hilarious Idol moment, Paula says to Simon, “let’s not forget she sang it unbelievably” to which Simon responds, “well, not unbelievably - but good”. Classic.

Take a look for yourself.

Last night’s results show wasn’t too much of a shocker since Kristy Lee Cook has managed to sneak her way past getting the boot for weeks and weeks now.  The bottom three consisted of Miss Cook herself, the adorable little Ramiele Malubay and my favorite Idol girl, Brooke White.  Luckily, Syesha Mercado did not have to endure another gutwrenching week in the bottom three.  Fortunately for her, America actually got on the phones and voted for her like they should have been doing all along.  But unfortunately for me, a big fan of Brooke White, the votes were not completely in her favor last night.  She did however wind up getting sent back to the couch to safety with the rest of the Idol gang.

So it boiled down to Kristy and Ramiele and it was no surprise at all when Ryan Seacrest announced that Ramiele would be leaving American Idol.  She was pretty upset with the news, as anybody would be in her position.  Kristy gave her a very long and lingering hug which nearly verged on creepy lesbian action.  Hey, you can’t say you weren’t thinking it!  Ramiele is so short that her head was lodged in Kristy’s chest for just a little too long.  Anyway… all that aside, Ramiele sang her way off of Idol with dignity as she held back the tears and belted out her final song.

Side note:  Did any of you guys watch The Next Great American Band?  The winners of that show, The Clark Brothers performed on Idol last night and it was spectacular!  Now that’s good music :)

David Archuleta performed “Smoky Mountain Memories”.  Randy called it a great performance.  Paula told David “you have a beautiful… aura” (whatever that’s supposed to mean!).  Simon said that this week he is on the money.

Kristy Lee Cook actually did a decent job last night!  But I think the producers probably planned to do Dolly Parton night just to keep Kristy alive in the competition.  Just my thoughts!  The beginning was not so great but I have to give her credit for making it good especially at the end.  Randy said this was her “wheelhouse” (again - whatever that means!) and Simon called it “pleasant but forgettable”.

Syesha Mercado had the best performance of the whole night, in my opinion.  She sang “I Will Always Love You” in a gorgeous yellow dress on a piano.  She had tons of emotion and did an absolutely astounding job.  Randy said it was pretty good.  Paula loved her velvety voice.  And Simon says it was “good but not a fantastic version of the song”.  But what does Simon know?

Michael Johns was his typical, dramatic self but he did a pretty nice job.  Randy called it a “blazin’ hot performance” and Paula is convinced that Michael is a star.

Not sure who is going to get the boot on tonight’s results show but it better not be Syesha because that girl deserves some serious Idol love for her performance this week!

Last night, the Idol contestants paid homage to the songs of Miss Dolly Parton.  How did they do, you ask?  Well here is the rundown on what took place last night.

Brooke White did an amazing job with Dolly Parton’s “Jolene” with the help of a violinist, percussionist and backup singer.  Randy said there were some pitch problems which didn’t seem accurate but whatever.  Cracked out Paula told her that she is consistent and “you are who you are… you.. are… Brooke White.” Wow, Paula.  What great advice?  Simon was not impressed with the band’s performance.

David Cook sang “Little Sparrow”.  It showed off his falsetto which was cool.  Paula praised his messy haircut and Simon said it was not as good as last week but “if you can make a song about sparrows good, then congratulations.”

Ramiele - what are you wearing??  The girl had orange nails, some weird silver heels and a white top with black suspender shorts.  Uhhh… weird much?  Randy gave her performance a 6 1/2 out of 10.  Simon told her plainly that we are not going to remember the performance in 10 years time and that she belongs on a cruise ship.

Jason Castro was great great great last night.  He sang “Travelin’ Through” and sounded a lot like Jason Mraz.  It was laid back and really nice.  Randy said it started a little rough but it was good.  Paula said his voice sounded confident.  And Simon, for some insane reason, said he didn’t “get it”.  Honestly, I don’t “get” Simon’s opinions sometimes.

Carly Smithson’s performance was way better than last week.  Randy called it one of the better performances of the night.  Paula just kept oh-my-godding.  Simon said it was good but not great and that “you’ve got to have a word with whoever’s dressing you at the moment” - he says she needs to dress like a star.

Last night marked the end of the road for Chikeze Eze.  Kristy Lee Cook managed to squeak by yet again - drats!  Syesha Mercado seems to be having a very tough time coming up with enough votes to lock her into the competition.  She did an amazing job this week and it still wasn’t enough to keep her out of the bottom 3.  Apparently America just doesn’t think she’s good enough.  Either that or Kristy is just easier on the eyes.  Whichever it is, it is not looking good for Syesha and I predict she will be booted off in the next 2 weeks.

Jason Castro was also in the bottom 3 this week.  I guess it’s time for him to either start packing or get working on wowing the judges.  He needs to do something spectacular if he wants to continue his ride with Idol.

Anyway, Chikeze left the Idol stage last night so you know what that means - no more salmon suits, calculator wrist bands and Barry White impersonations.  Shucks!  He had a good run but I’ll bet he is kicking himself for going with such a dreadful song this week.  Guess you can’t win ‘em all!

Michael Johns needs to get off the stage!  Okay so his Queen medley last night wasn’t the worst thing in the world but seriously dude, you need to just go already.  His performance was pretty decent and then at the end he tried to hit notes that were no where near his range of capability.

David Archuleta picked a strange song I’ve never even heard of before called “You’re the Voice.”  While it started off kind of so-so it actually was very nicely done.  The catchy melody in the chorus made him shine.  Like Randy said, David manages to take songs that are pretty lifeless and turn them into gold.

Brooke White sang and played piano to the Police classic, “Every Breath You Take.”  The first half was absolutely amazing.  Brooke is wonderful when she sticks to her guns and does everything solo.  The trouble came in during the second half as cheesy backup singers and the band chimed in to build the song.  It just didn’t work out very well.  But you know what?   This girl is going to go places as a solo artist.

I hate to say this but HATS OFF TO DAVID COOK!  He completely blew me away with a very different arrangement of “Billie Jean.”  After seeing this performance I really think he has a chance of winning the competition now.  I know, that’s a pretty bold statement!  Let’s not get too carried away though.  I can’t stand David’s personality.  There is something incredibly fake about him.  It just seems like he tries to emulate other artists too much and his attitude is way too cocky to really get too far.  But we’ll see.

Oh brother - Kristy Lee Cook is back again.  Somehow she keeps surviving from getting booted off the show every week.  The female Sanjaya decided to go with “God Bless the USA” last night which pretty much seemed like a desperate attempt to get America to vote for her.  I guess she figures if she pulls out a patriotic song then Americans will get sentimental and ignore the fact that she sucks.  Oops, did I say that out loud?

Let’s see… tonight is the results show and I’m hoping that if Kristy doesn’t finally get the axe then maybe Michael Johns will be on his way out the door.  However, I’m not so sure that Carly, Jason and Chikeze are safe.  Syesha hasn’t been getting as many votes but hopefully her stellar performance will keep her out of the bottom 3.

My apologies for the late post!  Did you guys watch Idol last night?  Here’s what I thought of it (the contestants are in no particular order - I am going by memory, folks!)

The theme for last night’s show was songs from the year they were born.  So it was mostly popular 80’s hits and some were definitely better than others.

Can I just take a moment before I start to say - What was Paula wearing???  I guess she’s trying to hide some trackmarks with those gloves.  I don’t know, seems a little suspicious to me.  She seemed either drunk or high on drugs all night.

Ramiele Malubay did a terrible job of “Alone”.  She was incredibly pitchy and I just couldn’t get over how bad it was.  Ramiele looked astounding although those 80’s style shorts weren’t really too sexy.  Randy put it to her straight and told her it wasn’t good.  But my opinion changed a little when Paula commended her for her performance despite being really sick.  Well… if Ramiele was sick then I have to retract my previous statements and say that she had a good excuse for sounding like a train wreck.

Jason Castro, the birthday boy did Sting’s “Fragile”.  He has a good handle on being sweet and even sort of soulful when he sings but as much as I like him I think his performances are really starting to get old quickly.  Jason needs to do something else if he wants to stay alive in the competition and the judges agree.

Carly Smithson attempted to do a nice job of “Total Eclipse of the Heart” but wow did she miss the mark!  She seemed WAY too into it and it even verged on sounding angry.  I don’t know what she was thinking but it really didn’t work out for her.  What I don’t understand is that she has such a great voice but she doesn’t really know how to use it.  Her song choices never really seem to show off her skills.

Chikeze Eze looked pretty fly last night but boy does he need to stay away from these boring, corny love songs!!  Everything about his performance was atrocious.  I actually felt pretty embarrassed for him especially when he touched the hands of the screaming girls in the crowd.  It was equally terrible as he hit some really low notes at the end.  I guess it was supposed to be sexy?  Seemed like a total gimmick to me.

Syesha Mercado blew me away with “If I Was Your Woman.”  This was by far her best performance yet.  She nailed it.  The emotion and effort put forth was incredible so props to Syesha for a job well done!  The judges loved the song although I do agree with what Simon said about how she probably pushed her limits and doesn’t really have much else to work with vocally.  The girl is talented but let’s face it - she’s no Melinda Doolittle.
